Welcome to MDP’s Property Map and Data Products

The Maryland Department of Planning (MDP) annually updates the more than 2,800 property maps, or tax maps, for Maryland’s 23 counties − Baltimore City maintains its own property maps. MDP distributes these maps to the public in electronic DVD format, online or as paper tax maps with no included data.

Maryland’s tax maps are updated and maintained electronically as part of MDP’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) database. The tax maps are then combined with recent parcel information from the Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation as individual parcel records are linked to their property locations on the tax maps.

Tax Maps, Parcel data, Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal (CAMA) data, recent Sale data and associated layers including aerial imagery, ZIP code boundary files, land use/land cover data, census geography and census demographic data, Priority Funding Area (PFA) designations, legislative and congressional district boundary files, flood plain data, generalized zoning designations, protected land boundaries, sewer service area boundaries and (except for FINDER Online) residential Sales x,y point files for CY 2008-2002 derived from the SDAT parcel data are available through MDP as:

MdProperty View is a visually accessible dataset that allows you to interact with a jurisdiction's property map and parcel information using the advanced features of ESRI's latest geographic information systems (GIS) software, ArcGIS® 9.x*. Simple and easy-to-use search tools help you zoom in to an area of interest on a property map and display your parcel record of interest.

Working geographically helps you understand the relationships between parcel data and the forces that drive your organization so you can make better decisions, identify opportunities and solve problems faster. MdProperty View includes the Geocode Tool that allows you to match your own customer and client address database records to the MdProperty View parcel points and to display your data on a map.

About FINDER Maps and Data DVDs

FINDER Maps and Data DVDs, a licensed product of MDP available on an annually renewable subscription basis, offer traditional users of tax maps the benefits of access to State geospatial map data without having to make a substantial investment in advanced GIS software and training classes.

MDP’s user-friendly FINDER software, free to Subscribers to FINDER Maps and Data DVDs, is designed to allow you to easily search for parcels, build advanced parcel search criteria or queries, view and print tax maps, automatically link online to real-time parcel information available via the SDAT Real Property Search website, export parcel records and add additional map layers.

About FINDER Online

If you use property maps and parcel information in your day-to-day business and have access to the Internet, but do not require the more robust features of a desktop GIS, FINDER Online is the solution you've been waiting for. Developed and hosted by the Maryland Department of Planning (MDP), FINDER Online simplifies the way that Maryland's 2800+ tax maps and 2.2 million parcel records are searched and viewed.

FINDER Online is a visual dataset with Smart Points that allow you to interact with State property tax map and parcel information using your web browser. Subscribers can select from nine multi-jurisdiction regional views that allow interaction with all of the tax maps, parcel records and map overlays for the Maryland jurisdictions contained in a region.

About Paper Tax Maps

Tax maps, also known as assessment maps, property maps or parcel maps, are a graphic representation of real property showing and defining individual property boundaries in relationship to contiguous real property. The primary purpose of these maps is to help State tax assessors locate properties for assessments and taxation purposes. Tax maps are also used by federal, State and local government agencies as well as private sector firms for a variety of analyses and decision making processes.

The Property Mapping Section, part of the Maryland Department of Planning's Planning Data Services (PDS) division, is responsible for maintaining electronic tax maps for the 23 counties in Maryland. MDP does not maintain tax maps for Baltimore City. The State's 2800+ tax maps are maintained in a Computer Aided Design (CAD) environment and updated on an annual cycle using new property plats and deed changes obtained from the State Department of Assessments and Taxation (SDAT). These maps form the foundation for many of MDP's products and services, including MdProperty View, FINDER and FINDER Online.
